01 / ABOUT THE PLACE

About this place

At Bien Sur, texture is as much a reason to choose a bread as flavour. One diner who had the Daisen ham cutlet sandwich for lunch noted that the bottom of the koppe bread had a pastry-like layering, while the crust itself was pleasantly firm. The ham cutlet was thin, but the amounts of sauce and cabbage were well balanced, making this a sandwich in which the bread tasted just as good as the filling. For something sweet, consider a malasada. One review describes its substantial outer crust and chewy texture—an appealing choice if you want something more satisfying than a light, fluffy sweet bun.

The house-made curry bread also makes a strong impression. One diner enjoyed the contrast between its crisp coating, chewy dough and curry filling, which brought sweetness followed by a touch of heat. Another reviewer also praised the crunchy coating and substantial filling, making it a good option when you want something hearty. For a less usual take on yakisoba bread, try the meat-miso yakisoba bread. According to one customer, it is made with medium-thick noodles and meat miso inside the bread, with tenkasu—crunchy tempura bits—baked onto the outside. They also enjoyed the contrast with the soft, chewy dough. It is a different combination from the familiar style of putting yakisoba between slices of bread.

Among the sweet breads, the brioche with orange peel and sherry is another memorable option. A customer described the dough as fluffy and moist, with a pronounced orange-peel flavour; the surface, too, was left moist rather than baked to an especially crisp finish. Other diners have praised Bien Sur’s custard for its distinctive egg flavour and enjoyed the milk stick, so there is plenty to explore among the sweet choices.

Bread can be enjoyed in the café on the 2 floor as well as taken away. The morning set includes toast and an egg served with jam. Drinks include blended coffee for 400 yen and hot café au lait for 500 yen. Choose a bread, add a drink and settle in for a break.
